I purchased small business insurance (professional and general liability) for me and my husband's home inspection business in April 2018. The following premium payments were made via autodraft from my credit card: •$102.70 – April 30th initial payment to start policy •$51.33 – May 29th payment •$51.33 – June 29th payment •$51.33 – July 30th payment •$51.33 – August 29th payment •$51.33 – September 28th payment When I contacted Hiscox on 9/24/2018 to update my address I was advised by their representative, Adrian, that I should never been allowed the policy from the beginning as Hiscox does not cover home inspectors and that my policy would be cancelled immediately. In short, we had been making payments towards an insurance policy that ultimately would not have covered our business and apparently per Hiscox policy and Adrian, should have never been approved. Luckily I did not have any incidences or needed to file any claims. The representative advised that she could refund 3 months' worth of premiums within 2-3 business days. I checked my credit card statement on 9/30/18 (6 days later) only to see 2 month's worth of premiums refunded in the amount of $108.57. Hiscox even continued to withdraw the September payment after the policy was cancelled and has not refunded this amount either. (Policy cancelled 9/24/2018; payment withdrawn on 9/28/2018) Since Representative Adrian reiterated several times that they do not cover home inspectors, legally they should refund all monies paid towards the policy.
