Med Associates was extremely negligent! Why was someone able to access the workstation? When an employee is not at their workstation it should be at the lockscreen. In addition, employees should have very limited access to a patients private information! Thieves can't steal what you don't have. Data minimization is a powerful element of preparedness. The rules are disarmingly simple: Don't collect information that you don't need. Reduce the number of places where you retain the data. Grant employees access to sensitive data on an "as needed" basis, and keep current records of who has access to the data while it is in your company's possession...and purge the data responsibly once the need for it has expired. They act as if they're doing you a favor to monitor your credit for a year...something that they are required to do by law! Thanks Med Associates!
